Notes for MARIA DOROTHEA LEMBCKEN:
Maria Dorothea Leverenz, nee Lembcke(n) died 9 years before her husband. She was born about 1773 and she was born in Kandelin. It is probable that Joachim Heinrich Leverenz married her in the Gross Bisdorf parish. If we take a second took at the Lembck(en) godparents from Kandelin we can assume that she was from a farming family. Although the Pomeranian farmers were far from well off or wealthy, they surely much less social and economical problems than the day-labourer, estate/far worker or weaver families. The Lembcke farm in Kandelin from which Maria Dorothea might have been was a "Royal tenant" farm, which means that the farm and the farming family were not personally bonded/dependent, but leased the farm from the (Swedish ) State. The Northern part of Vorpommern (north of the river Peene) was part of the Swedish Kingdom from 1648 to 1815.

Notes for CHRISTIAN FREIDRICH LEVERENZ:
Christian Friedrich Lewerenz and Catharine Sophie Priebke got married in Duckow, Zettemin parish (the Zettemin pastor was obviously only represented by the Kummerow Pastor for a short amount of time due to absence or illness) and they already married in 1830.
Before the Lewerenz/Priebke family settled down in Sassen, not too far away from the home village of Christian Friedrich, they moved a number of times. Fortunately I was able to check the Sassen confirmation registers for all their (surviving) children, so that we do not only know their names and birthdays but as well their probable places of birth. The first known child was born when the parents lived in Duckow (1828), the second one in Kandelin, Gross Bisdorf parish (1831) and the third one in Vorbein, Loitz parish (1836). Based on the information in the Sassen baptismal register we know that there had been two more children, who died early, probabily before the family arrived in Sassen. from Hans Muller-Koppe
The family situation with four young step-siblings and no parents, possibly "confronted" with a step-father plus a movement after 1855 might have been an additional motivation to emigrate for Karl, Karoline and Dorothea. But the main reason was surely the poorness of the family. The weavers were amongst the worst off professions in the mid 19th century because their handicraft was not longer requested. There were good industrial textiles and they got less and less money for their material and clothes. The movements of the family from Duckow to Kandelin and Vorbein to Sassen is another indidation for the difficulties of Christian Friedrich Lewerenz to earn the living for his family.

Dukow (today`s spelling Duckow), village and "Rittergut" (p. 51)
Located almost 30 kilometers south(west) of Demmin, on the banks of the river Peene (today called Ostpeene here nesr the springs of the river). Dukow (and the whole Zettemin parish) lies at the border of Pommern and Mecklenburg, outside of main area of the Kreis Demmin. It is enclosed by Mecklenburg territory as a Pommern exclave.
Among the inhabitants of Dukow there is a sexton, a schoolteacher, a smith and an inn-keeper. 30 day labourer families live at Dukow. There are 18 Feuerstellen (households) with 223 inhabitants. The Dukow church is a filial of the Zettemin church.
In former times Dukow was a parish but it burned down totaly around 1630. The church was destroyed entirely and even 1648 there lived no one in this place, so that it was decided to connect Dukow with Zettemin. There were other filial churches of Zettemin in Gielow (Mecklenburg terretory, this church has been connected with Malchin in Mecklenburg since 1838), in Pinnow, Rottmannshagen and Rützenfelde.
The villages of the parish of Zettemin were onder a combined (and often heavily disputed) administration of Mecklenburg and Prussia (Pommern) between 1648 and 1740. From 1740 on they belonged to Pommern. Until 1743 the Pastor of Zettemin was a Mecklenburg clergyman. From 1743 he is a Pastor of the Pomeranian church (Pommersche Kirche, Synode Demmin).
Dukow is an old estate of the von Maltzahn family, nowadays (1865) in the property of Freiherr Otto von Maltzahn.
Zettemin in a manor as well. It had belonged to the Maltzahn family since the middle ages and was sold in 1852 together with the new mill and the house "im Bredeluk". There are 14 Feuerstellen (households) with 256 inhabitants in Zettemin. In later times the estate Penewerder was layed out. It had 4 Feuerstellen (households) with 59 inhabitants in 1865.
Pinnow had 12 Feuerstellen with 202 inhabitants, Rottmannshagen had 12 Feuerstellen with 224 inhabitants and Rützenfelde had 8 Feuerstellen with 130 inhabitants.
Today, both Zettemin and Dukow belong to Mecklenburgian parishes (Gielow and Rittermannshagen respectively) after the exclave connected with Mecklenburg in the 20th century. The old Zettemin parish registers were brought to the central Schwerin church archive, where they are accessable for research.
The Berghaus book for Sassen, Gülzow, Düvier and Zarnekla (Kreis Grimmen) was never issued so that I am not able to provide such information for these villages yet.
